Gilles Savary

Senior Director

Former MP and MEP, Gilles Savary’s expertise lies in transport. Specifically, he followed the sector’s legislation and EU news for the National Assembly in addition to taking an interest in the EU’s budget.

Gilles was formerly the Gironde general council’s Vice-President from 1988 to 1992. He was also elected to lead the Socialist opposition until March 2004 in Bordeaux. Gilles then became a member of the Socialist Party’s national council in 1997, and was in charge of national responsibility within the party for public services between 2001 and 2003. 

Elected  to the European Parliament in June 1999, he served as Vice-Chairman of the institution’s Transport and Tourism Committee while also being appointed as substitute member in Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, In the latter,  he monitored issues relating to public services, major infrastructures and spatial planning policies. Re-elected to the European Parliament in June 2004, he became Vice-President of the Transport Committee and President of the Intergroup “Ciel et Espace”. 

From 2009 to 2013, the European Commission appointed him as Coordinator of a major trans-European transport network project (PP22) – the Rostock-Constantza-Piraeus railway line –  which crosses seven Member States.  

In 2012, he was locally elected MP of Gironde and joined the Committee on Regional Planning and Sustainable Development and the Committee on European Affairs of the National Assembly. Mr Savary was rapporteur for the Railway Act of 4 August 2014, and authored the legislation against unfair social competition (workers seconded) in 2014. He chaired the Higher Council of Civil Aviation and co-chaired the Association Avenir Transports with Alain Gest, former MP of Amiens. 

In 2017, he decided to retire from the political sphere and joined Euros / Agency Group.
