CHALLENGES

Euros / Agency Group was chosen by the Port of Boulogne Calais, France’s leading fishing port and continental Europe’s leading passenger port, to support the creation of this new entity resulting from the merger of the ports of Boulogne-sur-Mer and Calais, as well as the port’s extension project, called Calais Port 2015. The Port of Boulogne Calais had to develop new messages in order to promote, both internally and externally, the merger of these two ports, which had long been competitors and even enemies. The Port, hit at that time by the problems of reputation and security of the infrastructure linked to the question of migrants, also had to put in place crisis communication procedures and manage this episode in the media

APPROACH

  • Euros / Agency Group favored a cross-border approach to its mission, operating in France as well as in Great Britain and with the European institutions
  • The agency was able to combine its expertise in press relations and public affairs and chose to emphasize the port extension project, one of the largest investment programs in Europe, to install in public opinion and among decision-makers an image of modernity of the infrastructure capable of reinforcing this new identity
  • Euros / Agency Group also promoted the benefits (employment, local economy) of this extension by informing the local population and employees of the future benefits of the project

RESULTS

  • Hand in hand organization of the project’s inauguration by François Hollande with the Elysée Palace team, before 500 international guests
  • Setting up of a crisis communication procedure and a crisis unit
  • Disappearance of pre-existing tensions between the ports of Boulogne and Calais and improvement of social dialogue
